The Royal Academy of Dance is the largest examining body of Dance in the world. The Academy sets a very high standard and R.A.D examinations and qualifications are recognised anywhere in the world.
RAD Examinations are international!
All students at the Heather Kittel Ballet School are trained using the Royal Academy Method and all learn the Examination Syllabus Work as part of their training so that students wishing to enter for these Examinations may have the opportunity to do so. RAD examinations are conducted on a yearly basis and although most students do seem to enjoy the challenge and wish to enter for these examinations it is important to note that to enter, or not to enter for an Examination does remain an optional choice for each student.
The benefits of training using an examination system are:
- It gives the students a goal to work towards and a sense of achievement on reaching that goal.
- It serves as a measure of the standard of work that has been achieved.
- Students usually become more inspired by the understanding attention to detail in the learning process.
- It is not always so much the examination that is the most beneficial but the process of working towards it.
Pandemic and Filmed RAD Ballet Examinations
Due to the pandemic during these past two years the RAD has implemented filmed examinations. This has allowed many candidates to take exams where they may otherwise have been unable to do so. The filming of examinations will be reviewed on a yearly basis until such a time as it is completely safe for Examiners to travel to other countries to resume face to face examinations. These filmed examinations are very strictly supervised and run to a very strict RAD schedule. Candidates who do these filmed exams will receive the same regulated qualifications as for normal face to face examinations. These recording are sent to the Royal Academy of Dance are marked by RAD examiners from all over the world.
